going portable
I got my PSP through last week and have got to say that I’m highly impressed. Maybe not worth £170 but still pretty good. I managed to get it with 20% off and also 40 weeks interest free credit. After I paid a deposit of £35, it’s something like £2.70 a week – which is a better price.
Took me forever to get the wireless networking set up though. I bought a wireless card for my PC that doubles as an access point, so I thought I would just have to put that in, install drivers, and set my PSP to automatically pick up settings and that would be me. Not quite.
Overall, it probably took about 6 hours over 3 days to get the thing connecting. I had to manually set up the IP address and DNS settings, so first had to learn a bit about networking. Then had to set up internet connection sharing, which also meant learning about that. Lastly, I had to try and work out how Zone Alarm worked in relation to wireless networks to try and stop it killing every attempt I made.
So, after many false starts and stresses, I got it accessing the internet this morning. Then realised that there’s no real point to it. The wireless network just extends round the flat (big thick walls) so aI’m never really going to be that far from my PC. Plus, it’s quite slow. But, hey, it’s always something to play with.
